my phone is dead the first minute i step on manila. it's unusable the whole trip and i forgot to bring my charger - charaaaan... very cliche! it's times like this where i want to poke myself endlessly. stupidity always rules with me. so, i braced myself for my mother's enraged after 2 days. she wanted to be updated to this whole journey. needless to say, she is as excited as me to this jaunt.
accomplices (left to right): mike, me, pj, sharon, madz, chindy and boni.
there's no traffic like manila. bumper to bumper is an understatement (ok, that is overstatement). i haven't seen traffic that worst. i almost yelp everytime our bus' face almost kissed the bus in front. don't get me wrong, i like kissing, but for busses, it's a different story.
icky EK. so our first stop is Enchanted Kingdom, hurray! i'm not a big fan of rides but i need to do it coz i paid fortune for this (500 is already a fortune?) and i have this things where i want to face my fears kuno. for a day, i went back to being a kid all over again. i think i shout the most and everytime i'm aware of that, it gets me humiliated. i never shout that loud in my entire life.
Rialto - Simulator Ride. they're showing happy feet.
Flying Fiesta - Wave Swinger. i almost blow my tonsil away. i shouted to much my throat hurts.
Roller Skater - Mini Roller Coaster. it finished way too soon. i don't have much time to be terrified.
Up, Up and Away - Balloon Ride. boring, thats all.
Rio Grande Rapids - River rafting ride. this is my favorite. no overused of heart muscle coz it's not scary. it's pure fun and exciting.. i was screaming too much my mother could hear me all the way from cebu.
Jungle Log Jam - Log flumes. i don't recommend this to those who have heart problems. i'm positive, i left my soul everytime the log jams and crushed into the water. and after this, we don't have the heart to ride the ferris wheel and other rides anymore.
we spent the entire first day in EK and went to Cavite where we stayed for the night. we couldn't thank ate malien (boni's sister) and ate vilma more for being the best hosts. and for the record, i had eaten the best sinangag for breakfast the following day. courtesy of ate vilma of course :D
LRT and MRT. in contrast to the hearsays, there's no difference to the two except to their first letters. it's my first time to ride a train (it's a train, right?), and i had so much fun. i got to see metro manila on a bird's eye view.
stairs and muscle pains. downside of LRT and MRT is to conquer lots and lots of stairs. i could not numerate how much stairs i had taken for 2 days. it gives me muscle pains. my feet hurts like hell. it surpasses all the alay-lakads i had in the past. the walk is tiring that i even forgot how to smile. and if i could just sum it all, i could have reach the everest. but pains paid off, why with all those experiences, it's a lifetime's worth of memories :D
hot sunny day. i loved manila more on the second day. traffic is not that bad and the sun cooperates really well. i was praying for a good weather and i think i must overdo it coz the scorching heat almost cooked us alive. though, i prefer sun burn than to get soaked with the rain. plus, i heard telltales of the floods and i don't have plans of swimming with the garbage.
transpo. we need to ride at least four modes of transportation to go to a certain place - sikad/tricycle, bus, lrt/mrt and jeep, unlike in cebu where everything is a ride away. i never imagine manila to be that big. i couldn't live and work here, i'd be late everyday.
the infamous LBM. i panic the first thing the plane landed on manila, and sad to say, so is my stomach. we aren't in good terms. i "poop" on the nearest mall after we arrived in laguna (EK is in laguna). and then again, i "poop" in EK. twice. i think i consumed a whole roll of tissue papers in there :(
foodie. i want to try those street foods but i need to be nice to stomach, it's the only one i've got, so, i don't want to upset it more. for safe, we were eating in fastfoods the whole time. i'd rather eat those fatty foods (which i love) than to worried my stomach more. the last thing i want for this journey is a detour to ER (emergency room). and believe me, i don't want to end this trip to a hospital.
language barrier. everytime i hear a person speaks language that i do not, i always thought of them as smarter than me. so, i was smitten of the children talking Tagalog that fast. i envied them. at ang hirap mag Tagalog (there it is). it's painful! it needs more facial expression and more lips twitching (so i thought), i even bit my twisted tongue in the language foray. damn!
malls. trinoma is elegant and mall of asia is gigantic.
one thing manila has that can't be found in cebu is the unforgivable krispy kreme. did God just made this? coz it is next to heaven!
wallet tale. so, on the way to the airport, i managed to look stupid again. my wallet is AWOL. i don't know what had happened. it was there a minute and then gone the next. and along with the wallet is his bestfriend ATM (card). and just a small trivia, it's the nth time my wallet lost, and it always happened without me knowing where and when the dumb wallet gone. so, everyone, let's say, STUPID! i'm so stupid, mr bean would be jealous!
bloopers:
-nagsige pangita og souvenirs stand in MOA. we then approch one of the guards there.
boni: manong, ah saan po ba ang tindahan nang mga souvenir items dito (basta mao na ang point ni boni nya wa lang siguro natarong og relay)
guard: (said something inaudible to cebuano ears, pointing his fingers to nowhere, of course we don't understand a thing.)
chindy: (to the rescue) yung mga abubot na pampasalubong ba.......
guard: ah may "Kultura" na store dyan:
all: (not satisfied of the answer. hello! may ganyan din sa cebu, we need something manila-esque)
me: (to the recue number 2, tuga-tuga, nya nagsalapid diay to ang dila) ah manong! taga cebu kasi kami, tapos... (wala ko pahumana ni manong)
guard: aw taga cebu diay mo? ah, sige magbisaya ta..
- hala, pinahirapan mo pa kami manong!
overall assessment: manila is for vacation only, not my type of place to work and to live-in.. it's more chaotic than cebu.
let the pictures do the talk.
